Description
In my old neighborhood in Shanghai, most of the area hadn't seen redevelopment yet (unlike in the city center). Everything was old enough, worn enough, and grimy enough that there was a wonderful, lived-in feeling to it all. It wasn't all shiny and new, but that was fine. It wasn't pretending to be anything but what it was: full of people and full of life. All of the textures and colors were fascinating. I was glad to have lived where I did, and I was glad it hadn't all been bulldozed and rebuilt like so much of the city had already been.
